Can you still make money with a blog?

The quick and easy answer is: YES! Earning money with your blog is still possible even with blogs that are not niches.

How many daily hits does an average blog have?

A typical blog has around 20 to 40 visits per day, a blog that is fed regularly with content should have at least about 50 to 60 daily visits.

However, these numbers can be largely overcome if your blog has good content.

What is the Bounce Rate?

The bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who leave your blog without visiting any pages beyond the home page.

open_door_thumb6Typically these users will be visitors who came to your blog through a search engine, but did not like the content or did not consider your blog visually appealing.

How to improve your bounce rate?

Simple: Publish only unique content, original and with good quality! The net is full of duplicate content and low relevancy. If you want to be relevant, your content must be relevant!

What is a good content?

A good content will be something unique, something that brings value to those who are reading it. It is extremely difficult to write about something that doesn’t interest you particularly. You don’t have to be an expert in the area or topic in question, but you must have a genuine interest about what you're writing.

How to write good content?

1 –Be creative! Your thoughts are more interesting than you think!

2 – Be unique. Not only will duplicate content give a bad image of your site, you will also be penalized in terms of SEO (Search Engine Optimization - we'll talk about this in another post) by search engines.

4- Research about what you're writing. Be creative, but investigate your topic.

5 – Start writing. :)

How to keep track of your visitors and their Bounce Rate?

There are plenty of free tools to help you achieve a multitude of data about your visits. In particular, their geographical origin, how they came to your blog (from what site), what is their bounce rate, how long have they stayed on average on your website, etc ..

The most known and used  tools is Google Analytics:

The bounce rate may not always be reliable. For example, if your blog shows the complete text of the posts on the homepage, visitors will not go into any more pages, which will make your bounce rate high.

How can I make money with my blog?

There are several ways to try to monetize your blog. The most commonly used is to place ads on your site. You can do this in an automated manner, for example by using Google AdSense, which will give a value upon each click that is made in some ad placed by Google on your blog.

If your blog is hosted on Blogspot, all you have to do is turn on AdSense, and define where you want the ads to appear. Otherwise, you can also easily go directly to the AdSense (http://adsense.google.com) and follow the instructions on how to turn ads on your platform of choice.

Another option is going directly to an affiliate market like ClickBank (http://www.clickbank.com) or Comission Junction (http://www.cj.com/). This way you can recommend products that interest you and that are relevant to the topic of your blog, and earn a commission for each sale is made by buyers from your site.

How much can I make with a blog?

Typically, this value is not extremely high, do not quit your day job yet! :)

Take a typical case as an example:

The blog in question is already an active blog a for few weeks, and published interesting content on a regular basis.

This blogger will have at this time, by analysing his GoogleAnalytics data, about 60 hits a day and a bounce rate of 25%.

Imagining that the way to earn income through this blog will be automated with AdSenseads, the last variable in this equation is the degree of clicks per visit these ads will get.

This degree will depend on a large scale of the content in question, the target audience of your blog, and also the location of the ads.

Taking for example a value of 5% of clicks per visit, and about 15 cents per click (this value is also variable and highly dependent on the type of content and language), we obtain through the following formula, an approximate value of what you can expect to earn through on a similar blog:

Income per month = [Number hits] x [Rate clicks] x [Amount per click] x 30 (days)

Meaning:  60 x 5% x 30 x 0.15 = 13.5 euros / month.

Returning to the original question: Yes, you can make money with a blog, but it's hard to make a lot of money with it.

However if your blog is popular and has really interesting content, these values can be exceeded. If you can get about 600 unique daily visitors, you can get an interesting income addition. :)

Good luck!
